Well technically, you play as the male in the beggining, but the Female Protagonist is sharing the body with you. Untill you beat the game that is.

on rune factory 2 u hav an option to play as your daughter but like in rune factory oceans, this can only happen once u'v done the game with the main guy character...shame really

Um, I don't believe there are any games at all that do all three. ^^;;;

Also, I think that Rune Factory needs to consider the fact that 80% of Harvest Moon/Rune Factory consumers are FEMALE, and by making the female playable character option be so insignificant they are cutting their sales and not giving their fans what they want. Rune Factory 2 was nice in the aspect of you could play as the daughter, but then they wouldn't let you get married/fully grow up, which was completely unfair.

At least the only problems Harvest Moon is having (for girls) is trying to appeal to the audience's taste in general. (For example, I've noticed a lot of people are complaining about there are too many shoutas like Pierre in HM:IoH and Dirk from HM: Grand Bazaar.) But that's getting off topic. ^^;;;;;;
